This island-themed campground behind the Lost Island Water Park is a great family getaway. In our experience, this is undoubtedly Iowa’s best RV park that we have visited. 

When it’s time to unwind, Lost Island Water Park has plenty of options to help you relax and recharge. Drift lazily along the tranquil “Kailahi River,” soaking in the scenery as you float past lush tropical landscapes and cascading waterfalls. Or, grab a tube and ride the waves in the massive “Wave Pool,” where you can experience the excitement of the ocean without ever leaving Iowa.

How to Get There 

The Waterloo / Lost Island KOA Resort is 85 miles north of I-80 and Iowa City. The RV park is located off of I-380 which runs between Iowa City, and Waterloo.

Waterloo / Lost Island KOA Resort Review 

Waterloo / Lost Island is the only KOA resort in Iowas. Although KOA resorts have everything you need on-site for a complete vacation getaway, this one offers even more. Within walking distance is the Lost Island Waterpark. We rate Waterloo / Lost Island KOA Resort as Iowa’s best RV park.

As you enter the grounds of the Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort, you are greeted by lush greenery, tranquil lakes, and towering trees that paint a picturesque backdrop against the Iowa sky. Whether you’re pitching a tent beneath the stars or settling into one of their cozy cabins, you’ll find yourself immersed in the beauty of nature at every turn.

While the Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it doesn’t skimp on modern comforts. Guests can take advantage of amenities such as Wi-Fi access, laundry facilities, and fully-equipped cabins with all the comforts of home. Lost Island Waterpark

The Lost Island water park is only ¼ mile from the KOA. It is open daily between June and August. Ticket prices vary depending on the time of the season and are only valid for the selected date.

Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, Lost Island Water Park stands as a beacon of excitement and adventure in Waterloo, Iowa. Offering a refreshing escape from the summer heat, this expansive water park is a favorite destination for families, thrill-seekers, and water enthusiasts alike.

Online tickets are available for purchase until midnight of the night before. Although you can get tickets at the KOA, we reserved ours beforehand. This way ensured we were able to get in during our stay. The waterpark admission includes all rides and water attractions at Lost Island. The park also offers same-day re-entry. We could walk to our camper for lunch and then return to the park without hassle. 

Lost Island Water Park isn’t just for thrill-seekers – it’s also a haven for families looking to make lasting memories together. Little ones can splash in the interactive children’s play areas with mini slides, water cannons, and tipping buckets. Meanwhile, parents can relax in the sun or join in on the fun, knowing that safety and supervision are top priorities throughout the park.

Spread across acres of vibrant green landscape, Lost Island Water Park boasts an impressive array of attractions that cater to visitors of all ages. From towering water slides to lazy rivers and wave pools, there’s no shortage of aquatic adventures here.

Our Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort Experience 

We stayed two nights at the Waterloo / Lost Island KOA Resort on our way west towards Yellowstone National Park. This was a great way to break up the drive through the heartland of America. We played disk golf the first night and enjoyed an evening around the campfire. In addition, the kids had a great time riding their bikes around this large campground. Our second day here was spent entirely at the Lost Island Waterpark. This park was undoubtedly more than we expected and was an excellent way to break up the trip to Yellowstone. In addition, it is an excellent place for a family getaway for those living there.

Families will find no shortage of entertainment options at the Waterloo/Lost Island KOA Resort. Kids can splash and play to their heart’s content at the on-site water park, with thrilling slides, lazy rivers, and splash pads. Meanwhile, parents can unwind in the resort’s hot tubs or challenge friends to a game of mini-golf. With a range of activities designed for all ages, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
