The visitor center and Dunes Drive are located directly off Highway US-70. You will easily find the visitor center between Alamogordo and Las Cruces. The entrance to the park can be found between mile markers 199 and 200 on Highway US-70.

Of course, as avid travelers with a penchant for exploring National Parks, we had long heard whispers of the ethereal beauty tucked away in the heart of New Mexico. White Sands National Park, with its pristine gypsum dunes stretching as far as the eye could see, was something we wanted to experience.

Arriving at the park, we were immediately struck by the sheer magnitude of the dunes. The pure white sand shimmered under the sun, creating an illusion of an endless sea frozen in time. Eager to immerse ourselves in this otherworldly realm, we removed our shoes and allowed the cool sand to caress our feet as we ventured into the unknown. Not to mention, we brought our sleds with us.

Our first adventure came in the form of sledding down the dunes—a quintessential White Sands experience. Armed with sand sleds, we climbed to the top of a towering dune and gazed down at the steep slope below. With hearts pounding and laughter bubbling from our lips, we launched ourselves into the descent, feeling adrenaline rush as we soared down the sandy slopes.
